EMDR therapy for anxiety and trauma in Tampa Bay, Florida and Arizona
EMDR Therapy with Carolyn
I'm Carolyn Lenz, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, EMDRIA-approved Consultant, and Certified EMDR Therapist based in Tampa, FL. I provide in-person EMDR therapy to adults in my Clearwater office and via telehealth across Arizona and Florida.
In my practice, I support adults who look like they have it together; people others count on, who manage responsibilities well, and rarely let anyone see them struggle. Inside though, there's often a different story. Persistent anxiety, a voice that's hard on themselves, and exhaustion from carrying weight that shouldn't fall on one person. Small triggers can ignite deep waves of shame, anxiety, or self-doubt. Despite their competence, effort, and accomplishments, they carry the pain of never feeling like they matter as much as others or that they’re good enough.
What makes my approach different?
Many of my clients tell me they finally feel understood here, in ways they hadn't experienced with other therapists. I bring genuine warmth and compassion into every session, creating space where you can drop the mask without fear of judgment. But I also offer something many find hard to come by: practical suggestions and solutions. These aren't just insights; they're stepping stones toward changes you may have been trying to make for years.
Connection is the foundation, but it's not the whole story. My approach combines attunement with direction: meeting you where you are while gently nudging you toward where you want to be. If you've tried therapy before and felt unheard or stuck, I invite you to explore what's possible when both matter.
You wouldn't be here if some part of you hadn’t decided it was time to find the right support. Beneath the exhaustion, anxiety, and shame is someone who wants to feel safe, be known without managing how they are perceived, and stop living in reaction to the past.
Welcome, this is where healing begins.
We Can Overcome this Together.
Anxiety
Everyone thinks you are fine. But nobody sees your hands shaking before you walk into a room where you need to speak. Nobody knows the constant overthinking, questioning every interaction, every choice, and every feeling. Sleepless nights and anxiety that hits the moment you open your eyes. Nobody sees the shame spiral or the haunting feeling that no matter what you do, it is never quite enough.
Trauma
Logically, you know what happened is in the past; you're in a different situation, but you still feel it. Always on edge, people-pleasing, conflict-avoidant, unsure what you even want or need. You have the harshest inner critic and feel stuck in repeating patterns. Whether you experienced trauma as a child or an adult, it’s not your fault those experiences are still active, and healing is possible.
Burnout
You work hard, show up for everyone and everything, push through, then crash out. You’ve read the books and listened to the podcasts, but you keep finding yourself in a cycle of unfulfilling relationships, resentment, and pushing yourself to the breaking point. Your health is suffering. You swing between emotional overwhelm and numbing out, and it often feels like you're stuck in a cycle of defeat.
EMDR Therapy Services
In-person EMDR Therapy
I offer in-person EMDR therapy at my private practice in Clearwater, Florida. My office is conveniently located in the greater Tampa Bay area and is easily accessible from Tampa, Largo, and Saint Petersburg. Meeting face-to-face in a safe, supportive environment can help you feel grounded as we work together to reach your goals. In-person sessions also give you a chance to step away from daily demands and fully focus on your healing and growth.
Telehealth EMDR Therapy
I offer online EMDR therapy for adults located in Arizona and Florida. Our remote sessions take place through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform that protects your privacy. Research shows that online EMDR therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy, and many clients appreciate the flexibility and comfort of receiving therapy from home or the office. Many busy professionals find remote therapy helpful because it reduces the time burden.
EMDR Therapy for Therapists
Therapists carry a particular kind of weight: the vicarious exposure to others' pain, the pressure to appear regulated and competent, and often a deep reluctance to seek support for themselves. Additionally, many of us were called to this work because of hardships we experienced ourselves. I offer specialized support for therapists navigating their own trauma, burnout, and the particular vulnerabilities that come with this work. You deserve the same quality of care you give your clients.
Why EMDR therapy?
Logic alone cannot calm a dysregulated nervous system. That is not a personal failing. It is simply how the mind-body connection works. EMDR works differently than talk therapy alone, and for many people, it works when nothing else has. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps your brain finish processing experiences it got stuck on, so you can move forward.
Chronic stress, relational wounds, and the slow accumulation of never feeling at ease can be stored in ways that keep your nervous system on alert. EMDR helps your brain do what it could not at the time: process, integrate, and move on.
What is therapy with Carolyn like?
I’m dedicated to supporting trauma survivors, people who struggle with anxiety, and anyone seeking a more authentic, satisfying life. Sessions are relaxed and nonjudgmental while remaining focused on clear goals. I pride myself on being authentic and down-to-earth, able to laugh at myself, and creating an empowering therapeutic environment where we can focus on your concerns and your path toward healing.
EMDR is a structured therapy that uses bilateral stimulation to help process overwhelming experiences and dismantle self-limiting beliefs and patterns. Alongside EMDR, I use talk therapy to build skills that turn insight into real-world change. Through this process, clients address the root causes of present distress, learn to respond rather than react, and develop more adaptive beliefs, boundaries, and often relationships. I deeply value collaboration with my clients and respect the expertise you bring to our work together.
What kind of benfits are common?
Treatment outcomes depend largely on what brings someone to therapy; some people have a single event they want to work through, while others want to work deeply through complex experiences or issues of identity and personal meaning. Whatever each client values as their treatment goal is a priority to me.
Clients often experience relief from some symptoms after just a few sessions and often feel amazed when they move past something that has hung them up long-term. This “relief” may show up as thinking about the event less, improved sleep, feeling more distance from it, reacting less strongly, feeling more confident and capable, or being able to acknowledge a concern and move on. They also often notice that they begin doing things differently in ways that feel better for them. Sometimes these changes are subtle, and sometimes they are dramatic.
For example, clients have reported:
For the first time, I feel like my past is in the past.
There’s something about the combination of EMDR and talking things through with you. I understand myself more and how to actually do things differently.
I can tolerate negative feelings without getting overwhelmed or blaming myself for everything.
I don’t spiral the way I used to. I have more confidence in myself, and I no longer tolerate the unhealthy things I used to.
